At just 9 years old, Athar has experienced how learning English can open doors to various new opportunities. As a 51Talk student from Indonesia, Athar developed his English skills through regular 1-on-1 online classes, while also learning to express his ideas and thoughts more comfortably.

His learning journey with 51Talk then led him to face a bigger challenge, namely participating in a speech competition and preparing himself to speak in front of an international audience.

At the Global Youth Summit, Athar delivered his speech titled “My Hometown, Our Planet” or “Kampung Halamanku, Planet Kita.” He introduced Indonesia to the audience through its natural wealth, marine life, forests, and wildlife, while also conveying the importance of preserving our planet. Standing before an international audience, Athar was able to express his ideas in English and bring a message from his homeland to the global stage.

For Athar, English has become a skill he can use to express himself, communicate with others, and take part in various experiences beyond his daily learning activities.

Athar’s journey also shows the importance of consistent speaking practice. Through 1-on-1 online learning and direct interaction with foreign teachers at 51Talk, Athar can develop his English skills gradually and apply those skills in meaningful opportunities.
